There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall betting is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and although visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge casino, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that contains a number of amenities on top of the casino, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight table games.
